Christopher Barr - Conductor and Producer

Christopher studied Music with Education at the
University of Aberdeen. He an alumni member
of The National Youth Choir of Scotland and has sung
on numerous occasions as a chorus member
with The Edinburgh Festival Chorus.

As a chorus member of the National Youth Choir
of Scotland he has performed in many venues
across Great Britain; including the
Edinburgh Usher Hall, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall,
Glasgow City Halls, BBC Scotland Proms in the Park
and the BBC London Proms. With NYCoS, Christopher
has performed in some of Europe’s finest concert halls
in countries such as Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic,
Slovakia and Germany.

As a soloist, Christopher performed on BBC Radio 2 with the University of Aberdeen Chapel Choir and Choral Society
He has also made appearances with the Harry Ensemble, Aberdeen Bach Choir, Inverurie St Andrews Choir and Milngavie Choral Society.

In 2010, Christopher was awarded the Association of British Choral Directors Apprenticeship allowing him to work with the University of Strathclyde Chamber Choir and Orchestra under the guidance of Alan Tavener.
As an apprentice, Christopher also participated in an all day conducting masterclass with the BBC Singers
and Paul Brough. In 2012 he was awarded the National Youth Choir of Scotland student conductor bursary which allowed him to study under Christopher Bell as the assistant conductor of the National Boys Choir of Scotland. In 2016 Christopher was awarded a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust travel fellowship in partnership with the Finzi Trust to enable him to undertake music education research in the USA and Australia.

Recent conducting achievements include conducting the world premiere of Ken Johnston's "Flodden 1513" with
Stirling Schools Choirs and NYCoS Stirling Area Choir as part of the Cappella Nova Stirling 500 festival
at the Church of the Holy Rude, Chorus master for Glasgow UNESCO City of Music Nicola Benedetti Secret Flashmob project, Musical Director of the European Association of International Education Conference Choir at the SECC, directing choral workshops for Glasgow Spring Sing and the amaSing Festival, conducting a choir of 600 primary and secondary school pupils for the Rutherglen Olympic Torch parade as part of “Keep Her Lit”, off stage conducting for Scottish Opera's production of Gareth Williams "Elephant Angel"
and in October 2014 he was the assistant to Edward Rhys Harry at the London Welsh Male Voice Choir Festival of Male Voice Choirs at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

Christopher is currently the Musical Director of Strathaven Choral Society, Bridge of Weir Choral Society and Legato Voices. He currently works as a concert programmer and producer in Glasgow. Previous posts include Musical Director of East Kilbride G&S Society, the amaSing Festival Community Choir, Stirling Primary Schools Choir, East Renfrewshire Senior and Intermediate Youth Choirs, South Lanarkshire Olympic Torch Choir and Robert Gordon University Singers. Christopher has participated in choral conducting master classes with Christopher Bell, Alan Tavener, Derek Clark, David Hill, Stephen Layton, Paul Brough, Roger Williams MBE and Ralph Alwood.
